Each year the New York-based Oxford Shakespeare Company chooses 1 or 2 Shakespeare classics to be taught and performed in historic site-specific cities throughout the world. We have performed Macbeth in Birnam Wood, Scotland, Richard III on Bosworth Field, England, Henry V on the battlefield of Azincourt, and The Merchant of Venice at the original “Belmont” in Venice.

In addition to these performance workshops, the OSC offers Master Classes with world-renowned artists such as F Murray Abraham, Fiona Shaw, Kevin Spacey, Derek Jacobi, Michael York, Frank Langella and Matthew Broderick.

The OSC founding director is Ron Song Destro, who is a Kennedy Center award-winning playwright, as well as an actor, director and teacher.  He is a recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts grant and has received critical acclaim for his Shakespeare productions, as well as for his own play Hiroshima, a collaboration with Yoko Ono, which won the 1997 Kennedy Center New American Play Award. He has directed more than 30 Shakespeare plays presented in New York, London and Stratford-on-Avon.
